Ivanhoe urgently needs your help.  LAUSD is cutting our arts program in half and eliminating it altogether in 2011.  This is unacceptable and we need to let our district know that we will not go down without a fight.

Please sign the petition below and more importantly, send a letter to every member of the school board. Click the link to get names and addresses of all school board members along with a letter you can copy and paste.

Please take five minutes to do this today.  We cannot afford to lose our arts program.

Subject: Save the Arts at LAUSD

Dear Superintendent Cortines and LAUSD Board Members,

I recently learned that the budget cuts announced last year are about to go into effect and cripple the arts programs in LAUSD.  I do not think it is reasonable for our children to shoulder the responsibility for our statewide budget deficits with cuts to their vital arts instructional programs.

Our children deserve a full, well-rounded, rich, diverse education – of which the arts are a primary and central part. Arts are an academic core subject that is essential to our children and must be funded as consistently as math and language arts.

As a concerned and dedicated parent, I am holding you to your commitment to our children, to arts instruction for students in grades K-12, and to the consistent funding of LAUSD Arts Education Programs now and into the future.

Thank you,
